The Canadian Association of University Business Officers deems the University of Calgary as the most research-intensive university in Alberta. It is ranked among the top 10 in Canada and is recognised internationally as a leading research university with research funding tripling in just five years. Our 213-hectare campus is a beautiful and dynamic setting for students and scholars. The University has 16 faculties with more than 60 academic departments. It employs 2,200 academic staff and 2,800 support staff who serve over 30,000 full and part time students registered in undergraduate and graduate programs. The University of Calgary´s resources include a medical school, an environmental science centre, an astrophysical observatory, five libraries, theatres, museums, art galleries and the finest combined athletic facilities in Canada - a result in part of having hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics. The University´s Athletic Teams have won 32 National Championships and 108 Conference titles. Registered University of Calgary students are able to take full advantage of all facilities on campus. | Admission requirements |
Graduate English Language Proficiency Requirements : Students whose primary language is not English will be required to fulfill the English language proficiency requirement in one of the following ways:
Please note: Some programs require scores higher than the ones stated here. Check with the program for their current English language requirements.
* A minimum score of 80 (Internet-based test), 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) on TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); or
* A minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System); or
* Successful completion of Level 3 of the LEAP Program (Learning English for Academic Purposes Program) at the University of Calgary. For information on the LEAP program, go to http://www.educ.ucalgary.ca/elf/index.html. Please confirm with the graduate contact in your department whether or not they will accept the LEAP program in lieu of the TOEFL or IELTS;
* Some departments or graduate programs may agree to waive the English proficiency testing requirement in certain circumstances, such as the possession of a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from a recognized institution in which the language of instruction is English. Please contact the graduate program to which you plan to apply for further information.
