| Too many young Long Islanders feel the need to move elsewhere upon reaching adulthood. New York State Assemblyman and C.W. Post alumnus Rob Walker wants to know why, and held a forum in the Pioneer Room Monday, April 13, to find out.
Walker, who lives in Hicksville, and New York State Assemblyman Marcus J. Molinaro from Red Hook, Dutchess County, listened as C.W. Post students, faculty and staff talked about the issues -- most of them economic -- that complicate life on Long Island. Expensive housing and high taxes were the most frequently cited issues; the legislators said municipal consolidation, lower government spending and better community planning may help, and promised to bring the concerns they heard back to Albany for action.
Walker graduated from C.W. Post in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in education. He was a member of the 1996 NCAA Division II national champion lacrosse team. He has represented the 5th Assembly District, which encompasses northern Oyster Bay and portions of the towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead, since 2005.
