Interview with International School of New Media, Marketing Manager, Ms. Gyde Clausen

A brief background of the Ms. Clausen: Gyde Clausen, Marketing Manager at ISNM International School of New Media at the University of Lübeck. Clausen joined ISNM in July 2006.

Can you share with us a snapshot of the ideal ISNM student?
The ideal ISNM student has already completed a graduate degree, is highly motivated to complete a Master programme in Germany and has professional work experience, or advanced computer and programming skills. He or she speaks English fluently, enjoys working in intercultural teams and is open to contribute to different projects.

When is the best time to apply?
If the prospect wants to enjoy the Early Bird Special, he or she needs to apply prior to March 30, 2007. Applicants who need a German student visa should apply before May 30, 2007.

What kind of applicants (what sort of profiles) have you seen this year?
A great variety! We have students who were granted a BA in the field of architecture, engineering, geography, journalism, business administration, and even a MA in Theology. Some students already have work experience, some have a pure academic background. All have in common that they want to apply Digital Media to their field of interest.

Have applications been up or down in recent years?
Applications went up, but unfortunately not all students were able to come to Germany because of visa issues.

What factors do you weigh most in admitting a potential candidate?
Two factors can be considered to be highly important: English language skills and academic performance. Before being accepted the prospects are interviewed by one of our professors, according to this interview the candidate will be ranked. Additionally, soft skills are very important, too: team spirit, motivation, experience, … ISNM offers a fulltime programme we will ask about the financial situation, too, as it is crucial that students can make their living.

How will your student recruiting efforts change in this coming year?
We will intensify our cooperation with international universities which offer BA programmes in the field of Digital Media and want to promote ISNM through internal mailing lists of universities. All in all we will change our efforts more towards direct marketing.
